Why it's taken me this long to own up to being a season two Top Chef addict, I really don't know. It might have something to do with admitting to enjoying a show that forces accomplished cooks to compete for a spot on the TGIFriday's menu and incorporate Kraft mayo, Zesty Italian dressing, or BBQ sauce into their Quickfire Challenge dishes. Sure, that's almost what it would be like to work in a three-star kitchen.
Regardless, tonight is the big finale. It's between two people who I thought would have been gone by now -- Marcel and Ilan -- so it's difficult to say who I'd like to win. Like Anthony Bourdain, who contributed a brilliant guest-blogging rundown of the contestants this season over at Ruhlman, I was heavily favoring Sam. I've got a feeling about who will win tonight (and spoilers have confirmed it), but the nice thing about not really caring is that I can just sit back and yell at the television with compete impartiality.
Besides, I'm just happy that, with Sam back in New York (see Grub Street), my chances of spotting him in a restaurant (and inevitably making a fool of myself) have greatly increased.
